AB Flaggfabriken National 1905-2020

Begining

The flag factory National was founded in 1905 by Georg W Dahlström. It was at the time of union resolutions with Norway, and the start was so favorable that all union flags that were previously in the city of Sweden, became a troll team became unusable, and new flags outside the union mark were the only ones.
The factory had its first premises on Kungsgatan 10 in central Gothenburg, where the area was a mixture of lush villa gardens, a garrison hospital and an artillery regiment. The main production consisted of Swedish flags, national flags, pennants in various designs and Nautical flags.

Move to Grönskatorget

At some point in the 20th century, the business moved to Grönsakstorget 2. The city had grown and industrialism was gaining momentum, with production also starting to focus on corporate flags and flags for shipping.
The oldest customers come from this time, for example. Hasselblad, GP, Volvo and Broström, who are still customers today.
At the Gothenburg City's 300th anniversary in 1923, giant flags were manufactured for the rods on Gustav Adolf's Square. These were only hoisted at this time when they bent the flag rods.

The half life of the Flaggfabriken

The company moved to Rosenlundsplatsen 2 in the early 40s, where the fishing comers were lively at this time and many small industries were in the area, including Albrechtson-Hasse, which was a large customer.
During the war, the factory was war-placed, and manufactured among other things. stretchers and red cross flags.
After the end of the war, our shipbuilding industry was intact and there were many new buildings, All new vessels were equipped with a complete set of national flags and a couple of signal stands in the larger size. Götaverken, Eriksberg and Lindholmen launched a couple of ships a month, which meant that the sewing machines went hot and the company flourished. At Georg W. Dahlström's demise in 1952, the company was taken over by Sten L. Dahlström who transformed it into a limited liability company in 1957.

Then tax became more important than entrepreneurship

After almost 50 years at Rosenlund, everything would be demolished, to make room for the tax office's new premises. The flag factory now moved in 1969 to Haga, Husargatan 30-32, where large premises of over 1000 sqm were put into use. At the end of the 1970s, the premises in Haga became too large as the yards were closed, so the premises were then divided with the sail maker Gransegel.

The root offenses made us rootless

Then the demolition hysteria began in Haga and the moving place went to Första Långgatan 8 in 1981. The company stayed there until 1987 when the premises were to be renovated and then the move went a stone's throw over Järntorget to Norra Allé street 5. In 1994, Sten Dahlström surrendered the company to his sons Ingvald and Per, who sent it to their sons Ingvald and Per who run it than today. Here, the company also received one of the single largest orders, to the Athletics World Championships in Gothenburg 1995.

Back to start (almost)

The company once again needed larger premises with an adjacent store, whereby the move went to the worst snowstorm in 1995 to today's premises on Stora Badhusgatan 18-20, where we are located only a stone's throw from where it once started.

Today, we are holding everything that concerns flagging, both to companies and private individuals, in our store we sell, in addition to flag-related products, a wide range of nautical interiors, gift items and accessories.

Now we take the next step in our development and open the next store, the one on the net, so that we will also be able to provide our products and our knowledge to those who do not have the opportunity to visit us in Gothenburg.
